vintage scale makeover

Last friday I stopped into one of my favorite thrift stores with a 10 minute time limit. I was doing some errands in the area and just had to stop in. I usually have a good idea of what I am looking for, and can walk the aisle pretty fast. As I neared the end of the cooking area on my way to the sheets, I took a glance at this scale and quickly texted my friend to see if she wanted it. I have a scale currently at the studio, and I knew she would be interested.

The black color really wasn’t my favorite, which is why I had thought to share the treasured find.  The more I thought about the scale on my way home, I really wanted to keep it. I just really didn’t like the color.

For the extremely cheap price I paid, I thought It couldn’t hurt to try paint it . And I just happened to have a can of white spray paint( rust-o-luim semi gloss works great on metal) in the garage. I really think I need to take stalk in spray paint.

Before I began painting I taped around the center round circle covering the entire front. Once I had everything taped I sprayed the entire scale. The top pulled off which helped getting into the smaller area’s.  After the paint had set for a good 20+minutes and was almost dry to the touch, I ran my finger across random area’s pulling the paint off making it look distressed.

I don’t think the scale is going anywhere. It has found it’s new home on my entry table. And how cute are those mini fabric pinwheels  Karen sent for our upcoming Chicago workshop!!!!
