always thrifting

Fridays are 20% off at the unique thrift store . I am all about saving a extra 20% so I usually try to make a stop in.  And when I do I always walk right towards the furniture.

As soon as I saw this dresser I knew I wanted to take it home with me. And for  $9 it fit my budget. But then I started second guessing. You see my garage is already FULL of thrifty finds. I have less then a month before the really cold weather shows up, and I NEED to figure out how I am going to park inside my garage again. Which means no more bring dressers or chairs home.

I walked out the front doors without it. As much as I wanted it I just didn’t really NEED it.

After driving a few miles away I sat at the stop light still thinking about it. Have you ever done that before ?  I just couldn’t get it off my mind. I turned around and went back. It was still there which was a sign it was meant to be.

Over the weekend I painted her (dresser) my favorite vintage pink: ruffles by behr paint. Using one sample container which only costs $2.39 I had her all fancy again. The dresser was really scuffed up, but with 2 coats she looked like new.  I found the white knobs at hobby lobby for 50%.

Our upstairs needed a little splash of pink.

I love texting my thrifty friends photos while at the store especially if I know they are on the look out for an item I have spotted.  My favorite current find is a full set of gold flateware. I can’t wait to eat birthday cake with them in a few weeks!!  And yes that yellow chair is in my garage.

thriftedI always get asked what is your trick to finding such good finds ??  Honestly I don’t  have any special secrets besides go often. I usually stop in at  least 3 times a week or if I am in the area. I typically don’t spend more then 10 -15 minutes in the store. I typically walk right to the furniture section, look at the sheet isle/ crafts and a quick look over at the dinnerware. On days that I am not in a rush I will look more in depth but usually I walk in with a mission and look at a fast pace. I apologize in advance if I ever go to the thrift store with you. Just tell me to slow down.

lastly, don’t forget to grab your discount coupon if you donate. I try to space my donations out so I have more coupons to use!!  Happy thrifting.

creole wisdom - I thrift the same way you do, but I don’t have a garage so that keeps the hoarding to a minimum ;) You did a beautiful job, Amanda. I love how you paint furniture!ReplyCancel

Emily - Lovely dresser! Last week, I saw a beautiful tote bag at Target but didn’t get it. I was still thinking about it the next day so I stopped by again. It was 30% off. Obviously I got it that time. It was meant to be! ☺ReplyCancel
