How to tile your bathroom floor / phase two

If there ever was such a thing as a time warp, I think I just walked through it.  The main bathroom floor in my house was definitely rocking the 1990’s linoleum.

As I mentioned in phase one, the main bathroom is the last room in the house to really need a makeover. I would have laughed at you if you told me I  would be remodeling the bathroom  DIY style.  I watched a lot of you tube videos and the hardware store knows me by name.

To get started I removed all of the base boards, trim and vents from the floor.

I also unhooked the ugly cream toilet. Don’t worry, a bright white one will be taking it’s place. When you remove your toilet you do not need to get a new one. Just make sure you buy a new wax ring before putting it back in place.

You will need these to gather these tools before getting started.

TOOLS NEEDED:

1. chalk line
2. level
3. tape measure
4. grout float
5. wet saw
6. trowel
7. sponge

Once all our tools were gathered we started off by spreading thin set on the floor. Place your tile underlayment board on top and don’t forget to screw it down.

Let me be 100% honest. This was the hardest part. I was so glad to get it installed and to be done with it. Let the thin set dry over night.

Once your thin set is dry you can start laying your Wayfair tile.

The first and most important step before getting started is find the center of your floor. Once you do, use your chalk line and snap 2 lines.  This will be your main grid line to keep your tile square and straight.

We were worker bee’s and did the whole floor in one day. As you can tell by the lighting we worked into the late hours of the night.

I used old buckets to mix our thin set. Just keeping it classy.

Once we finished laying the Wayfair tile we let it set over night. Depending on the type of thin set you use will depend on how long you need to wait.

Clean off any loose or big mortar from your tile before grouting.  Grout is available in a variety of colors. I choose bright white to match the Wayfair tile.

. I didn’t any contrast. Use your rubber float to spread the grout across the tiles at an angle. Using a large sponge clean and wipe away any excess grout.

I waited another 24 hours to let the grout set before I walked on the floor. Trust me, I needed that 24 hours to re-coop.

You guys, it’s complete and I couldn’t be happier.

Now the fun part of touch ups, installing new base boards and decorating begins.
