scored thrifting

You guys, can you believe this amazing green couch I thrifted this week. I am in shock too.  I say it every time, you just never know what’s waiting for you inside.

It was one of those days where I wasn’t even going to make a stop. It was senior day, and I am always a little jealous of those seniors who get a extra discount. And honestly, you can never run in quick on senior day ….. I like to run in fast and I am always a little nervous I might knock someone down with my fast moving shopping cart.

I decided to run in quick. The thrift store that I went to is not on my normal route. As soon as I walk in I ALWAYS go to the furniture section first.  I began walking up and down the isles, nothing really catching my eyes until this.  A green velvet tufted sofa.  GAH!!!! I freaked out.  I stood with my cart looking for a worker to write me up a sold ticket. I didn’t want to leave in worry someone might snag it from me.  I looked around and noticed a worker folding sheets a few isles over. I yelled ” excuse me ma’am” She didn’t hear me so I yelled louder getting all red in the face.  She finally heard me and walked over.

The lady was a little firecracker. ” Oh honey” she said.  ” You aren’t paying $24.oo for this” . She continued to tell me how over priced things are getting ( agree) I was a little confused as I am like …. HELLO .. this couch is A-mazing.  She began to tell me her husband (a senior) was on his way over to have lunch with her and he would buy it for me to get his senior discount.

I handed him a $20 and the deal was done. I feel a little guilty about the whole thing, cheating the system but I could’t say no to the sweet lady.

I wish I told you I had a bunch of under cover secrets to which thrift stores have all the amazing goods. My best advice to you is to go often. I go thrifting at least 3-4 days a week. Some days I go to many stores, others just a quick run in. I never spend more then 15min in each store unless I am finding lots of stuff.  Going fast allows me visit multiple stores .  I have trained my eyes to look for certain items.  Depending on the store, I have learned where certain item’s are usually placed making it easy to look.

I always like to check under the skirt to get a look at the legs.  It didn’t take long for me to remove that skirt.  A easy pull as it’s only tacked in with staples.

Always amazed at what I can fit inside my SUV.

Happy thrifting friends !!!

Jessica | Petal + Ply - This sofa is ah-mazing!

I scored my green chair the same way (minus the senior special). I hadn’t planned on stopping in and I had actually driven past the store earlier in the day BUT after preschool pick up I decided to lug 2 of my little guys in, and what was sitting there, fresh on the floor, not even priced yet, an amazing deal of a mint tufted chair. Swivel AND rocking no less!

I concur, dropping in often IS THE way to score the good stuff.ReplyCancel

Lisa - I understand the excitement of thrifting. I too know what I am looking for and make a b-line to the fabric/linens/sheets section first for quilting. Next I zip thru the housewares/dishes looking for vintage restaurant coffee cups. My kids keep taking mine since I told them of the memories I had growing up watching my dad drink his coffee at restaurants and how those vintage cups make me happy. Happy thrifting 🙂ReplyCancel
