workshopOn Saturday afternoon the sun filled the studio as we welcomed new friends for a day of crafting.  It didn’t take long for connections to be made and laughter soon filled the room.

workshop1 closeupupSweet treats are always near by.  Pink doily cups from shop sweet lulu  were filled with kettle corn and chocolate chip cookies stacked the plate. Jessica made these cute mini fabric flags to help remember who’s cup was who’s.

We spent the afternoon creating three projects. Everyone went home with a jar of  homemade laundry soap decorated with ribbons and a paper dress. We tackled the sewing machines and learned how to make a patchwork hot pad and made a big color happy mess painting bamboo cooking spoons.

The afternoons always goes by way to fast, I  am  thankful for Instagram and the #becraftyworkshop hashtag. Photos above are from @hadempsey and @shopsweetlulu .

paintedjarsThis past weekend the temps in MN finally reached above 60, the golden temp to spray paint outside.  I patiently wait every spring for this day to come.

Last week I was inspired by my friend Maggie’s instagram photo.  I have spray painted mason jars before, but fell in love with her multiple color collection. I immediately went to the garage to collect jars.

paintTwo of my favorite types of spray paint are Valspar and Rust-oleum.  These are my own personal opinions. I love Valspar, which can be bought at Lowes. It’s wide collection of colors is my favorite and most colors come with a primer which is a big plus.  Rust-oleum is my go to for Gold and white, and can be picked up at walmart if i’m there.

Before you start any project, it is best to fully shake your can.  I always spray a test spray to make sure the paint has been mixed well and does not spray uneven.

paintinstagramI will admit I am pretty lazy when it comes  to putting paper down and painting. Our garage looks like one big rainbow in one area of by the end of summer. Luckily, during the winter months the dirt, rocks and snow fades it every year.

While at the hardware store picking up paint, I also picked up some flowers to plant inside some of the mason jars. We will be using them this weekend to decorate at the Be Crafty workshop.  I think when we are done, they will make the perfect gift to leave on our neighbors door step for May Day!!!

Anna Lee - I just have a quick question…did you paint the outside and the inside? And if you did paint the inside, was it difficult to get it even?ReplyCancel

Carol - In my next life I a going to come back doing something much more creative! I love these jars. I have just spent the last week or so planting all sorts of flowers in pots and I am thinking these jars would look great on my glass top tables. I feel a trip coming to Lowe’s. Thank you for such a great idea!!ReplyCancel

package

Most days you will find my floor covered in all kinds of scraps. Mostly fabric and ribbon clippings. I hate throwing them away. I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to saving supplies, especially when they are so pretty.  As I was in the midst of cleaning, I also had a little package sitting on my desk waiting to be wrapped.

package1

After last weeks camera strap sewing, I had lots of fabric strips and ruffled tulle scraps. Paint samples are always laying around. Am I the only one that feels like they need to grab every color when they go to the paint store ???

package3

I love using layers, especially with different textures.

package4

Package wrapping is one of my favorites. Don’t be afraid to use things you have laying around the house. Some of the littlest scraps can be used and turned into something beautiful.

straps

You might remember last summer  a couple friends and I got together at the studio, sewed and created the covered in love camera strap cover benefit sale for a dear friend.

I truly believe in using the gifts God has given us to help others. To help others who need extra financial help, or to help friends following their heart to help others through missions. I am so excited for my dear friend Lesley, and her upcoming mission trip to Africa. You can read all about her story here.

With scraps of fabric, and my love for making ruffles, the camera strap shop is back open.  All camera covers are universal and handmade with lots of love. There is a limited amount and ALL proceeds will go directly to Lesley to help fund her trip. If you don’t have a DSLR camera, but would still like to help, Lesley will be having a instagram auction on April 28th at 6pm central time.

Thank you friends for all your love and support.
