feeling so fancy and free

Over the weekend a family friend texted me a photo from a garage sale she was at. The message read, “come fast “.  I quickly changed out of my pajama’s, emptied the back of my SUV and drove across town. These are the moments I am thankful I traded in my  volkswagen beetle in for a SUV.   And when I receive picture messages from garage sales, I act fast.

Once I arrived, the lady was so excited I was going to haul all the dressers away , she ended up giving me half of them for free. It helped that it was a Saturday and she was ready to be done with her sale.

A couple trips later my garage was full. I was overly excited that I forgot to take a before photo. Imagine oak dresser covered in cartoon doctor office stickers.  With a little goo gone and a scratch pad I was able to remove the sticks and begin painting.

A few painting tips >>>>>

  1.  I hardly ever sand before painting. The only time I sand is if there are areas that are uneven, or if the area has a thick glossy sealant.
  2. I really enjoy painting dressers with a short handle brush, and a brush with a angle.
  3. Don’t over buy paint. This medium sized dresser only needed a sample size container of paint, which cost me under $4.

As I waited for the paint to dry, I spray painted the aged gold pull knobs white. Because the handles were in such great condition, I didn’t feel the need to replace them. I love how the white looks against the mint/teal color.

What are your favorite things to bargain for at garage sales ???

    alice gatto - Hi,
I love to find old bookshelves, sewing boxes, embroidered pieces and fabric that has been cut for quilts but not used. Of course, I need to look at everything and stray from my favorites often.

I’m sure that the reason that we have a small car is because my husband is afraid of what I could fit in a midsize or full size vehicle.

    I enjoy your blog.ReplyCancel
